Refreshing Your Hair Care Routine – Guest Blog By Radhika Sharma
It’s a new year, so why not give your hair a fresh new routine? I think it’s always good to mix up and refresh your routines – by this I mean in terms of the products you are using and even different techniques. For example, I have recently discovered different types of hair masks that can be made at home. I think these are great because it means they are free from chemicals and do wonders for your hair! I have also recently changed the shampoo I’m using as I like to try different brands rather than letting my hair get used to one specific shampoo. Here are my top suggestions on refreshing your hair care routine this year:
1. Start using homemade hair masks
As mentioned, I think homemade hair masks are great because you can make them from ingredients sitting in your kitchen right now! They are fresh, free from chemicals and budget friendly. I recently tried a hair mask using an egg yolk and Greek yogurt and afterwards my hair felt very soft and nourished. I would recommend doing this once a week for your hair, especially if you use hair straighteners on a regular basis. There are loads of ingredients you can use including coconut oil and even honey. 2. Change the shampoo you’re using
You might think you get everything you need from the shampoo you’re using, but if you want your hair to feel and look different, then why not mix up the shampoo you use? I know it sounds obvious but if you keep using the same shampoo you used last year, you’ll get the same results as last year! I’ve recently discovered the L’Occitane en Provence repairing shampoo which is amazing and great if you use hair dryers and straighteners as it helps to keep your hair looking healthy. Other shampoos that I have tried, tested and recommended include Simple shampoo, Dove and L’Oreal Elvive.
3. Use a heat protect styling spray
Whilst your hair is still damp, it’s good to use a styling spray before you start blow drying or straightening. I’ve been using Tresemme heat defence for years (and I would highly recommend it) but I recently bought the L’Oreal Elnett Satin heat protect styling spray and it’s working great for me so far!
4. Invest in a good (travel size) hair spray
We all have bad hair days, so it’s handy to keep a small travel friendly hair spray in your handbag just in case you need to fix up your hair during the day or night. Again I would recommend the L’Oreal Elnett satin hair spray because I find it works well for thick hair like mine. Other brands that I recommend include Tresemme and Boots Essentials extra firm spray.
5. Keep a dry shampoo at home (for those emergency days!)
In between washes, dry shampoos can work wonders for your hair and completely change the appearance and feel of it. Many women I know swear by the Batiste dry shampoo which I also think is great, but there are plenty of other brands out there to try.
