Don’t Live With Pain -Guest Blog By Tanu Sandhu

According to The British Pain Society almost 10 million Britons suffer daily pain resulting in a major impact on their quality of life and more days off work.

This statistic blows my mind! It never ceases to amaze me how many people put up with pain that can be treated or better still prevented.
As a McTimoney Chiropractor I treat people from all walks of life – the elderly, children, athletes, pregnant women. Usually these people come to me when they are in severe pain rather than when the niggles start and although I use a range of treatments to help them, if they had only come to me when they first experienced that twinge the road to recovery would be much shorter!

I decided to train as a McTimmoney Chiropractor having experienced the positive benefit of it myself when I was younger. I had many injuries during falls from horse riding and found McTimoney hugely helped me with the pain. The treatments I had left a lasting impression on me…such an impression in fact I decided that’s what I wanted to do with my professional life.

The theory behind chiropractic is that most human disease is caused by misalignments of the spine that apply pressure on surrounding nerves. These misalignments cause blockages to your natural energy, which in turn will make you feel unwell or cause you pain. Although most people see me for back pain, some of my clients tell me they feel benefits in overall health & well being too.

Prevention is always better than cure so here are my top 3 tips to ensure you stay in tip top health!

1. Drink water! Yes, you have heard it before. Some of the conditions I see are a direct result of dehydration in the body. Aim for 2litres a day but If you cant manage that gradually build up to it. Start with one large glass a day for the first week then increase it to 2 glasess in the second week. You will notice a big difference.

2. Check your posture. How are you sitting or standing right now? Are you slumping or putting pressure on one side? When standing, distribute body weight evenly to the front, back, and sides of the feet. When sitting sit up straight and align the ears, shoulders, and hips in one vertical line.

3. Don’t wait for pain to increase. If you are feeling twinges that are uncomfortable they will not just disappear – pain killers are treating the symptom and not the cause. Go and get expert help at the first indication of something not being right and you will be back to optimum health a lot sooner.
