Where are your cheer leaders?! – Guest Blog by Rupinder Kaur
Read any biographies or tips by successful people they will be sure to mention that one of the reasons they are a success is because they have a strong support network.
Build a network of supporters in your life. Think of them as your personal cheerleaders who will be there to support, challenge and push you towards achieving your goals. If you don’t have them in your life at the moment or need more of them, where you will find these people? That’s part of the reason we created Asian Women MEAN Business – www.asianwomenmeanbusines.com –
I couldn’t find where women like me were hanging out!
Sometimes you have to create what you want to be a part of and I wanted to be part of an environment where women are connected by our cultural beliefs, outlook but most importantly a desire to achieve success in the business environment whilst remaining true to family, culture and faith.
Take a minute and think about the people you spend time with:
• How do they make you feel?
• When you leave their company do you feel energized or
• When you tell them your dreams and goals are they supporting or deflating?
• Are they projecting their own fears and insecurities on you?
It may not be possible to limit your time with such folks (although I would strongly suggest you do) but these questions raise your awareness and I want you to think about how you are going to interact with these people. Maybe you don’t share your dreams or aspirations with them and keep your relations at arms length?
The importance of peer group is not to be underestimated but it needs to be the RIGHT peer group! If you want to be successful in your business, career or life seek out people you consider to be successful role models and spend time with them. It is said that we become the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Think about this for a second.
- Who are these people that you spend time with?
- Do you want to become like them?
- Do you have bigger dreams and aspirations then them?
- How are you going to find like minded people?
Do not be afraid to reach out to others for support, people will be honoured and want to help you.
